The place

East Grand Forks sits on the Minnesota bank of the Red River, directly across from Grand Forks, North Dakota. Its economy runs on agribusiness — American Crystal Sugar's processing plant handles thousands of tons of beets a day — and on the construction and earth-moving contractors that work the valley. The riverfront, rebuilt after the 1997 flood, is now parkland and trails.
